I have tried changing my run registry entry to “C:\Users\Bruce\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe” /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot “H:\magicJack”
and it does not work I tried creating a shortcut with the information and I get an error saying the /scf switch is invalid. I tried removing it, but it did not help. Is there a place where I can get magicjack.exe that accepts the /scf switch? If so please upload it to rapidshare.com so everyone can get it or maybe make it available as a bit torrent or emule file. I am beta testing Windows 7 and I need this working badly. MagicJack is my long distance carrier.

Bruce,
I got this to work however I had to remove the “”
Here is the shortcut That I have.
C:\Users\Orie\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot M:\magicJack
Hope this helps you.

Thank you removing the quotes was the trick. Has anyone tried making magic jack run as a service under Windows 7? I thought I might give that a try. BTW MagicJack works better under Windows 7 than Windows Vista. It sort of works under MagicWho, but dispays an error about a duplicate file when loading. Clicking continue allows Magic Who to load.
Also MagicJack must me current version to work. If it tries to update it will fail. Anyone have a solution to this?

The people @ magicjack should find you guys and pay you. I was on the phone with them twice and they told me there is no way it can be done. Thanks !

I followed the procedure. I connected the magicjack to my macbook and ran XP under VMWare and then copied the folder mjusbsp to the windows 7 desktop. I copied the magicJack.exe shortcut to my desktop and added the “/scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot Y:\magicJack” When I double click on it nothing happens. Am I doing anything wrong?
March 6, 2009 at 3:05 am
You need the full path for the shortcut here is mine.
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot Y:\magicJack
Hope this helps

I’ve followed this to a T! I’ve tried 32bit and 64bit windows xp and vista saved mjusbsp files to windows 7. I reassigned the drive letters to X: and Y:. Also attempted the shortcut and the start run. Nothing seems to work when I am running windows 7 64bit. I have 8 gigs of ram so it is required to run 64bit. Any solutions would help.

I cannot get the data for the MagicJack. Running it in a Virtual Machine doesnt work. It runs the setup from the virtual cd but there is is no Usb Drive where the settings are saved (am I right?), so he says: “Please Plug in your MagicJack”…
Which makes me wonder. How should I plug in my MagicJack if the setup is running from it RIGHT NOW?
April 17, 2009 at 12:03 pm
I got my hands on a laptop to get the data from. Your commandline-arguments work instantly! THANKS A LOT, now I can call my mom for free from germany

April 23, 2009 at 4:38 pm
You need to run it from the short cut not the Magic Jack drive
April 23, 2009 at 5:09 pm
How do i set up shortcut?
April 23, 2009 at 5:54 pm
1. Copy the mjusbsp folder from a working install on XP or Vista to the C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming folder in Windows 7.
2. You have to start it the no splash way to get it to load. Otherwise, you will get an error that it’s not plugged in.
“C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe” /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot X:\magicJack
Just substitute your username and your drive letter for X.
April 23, 2009 at 6:08 pm
what is the no splash way?

August 11, 2009 at 11:56 am
Dalf download RC1 or now just wait for the final. With RC1 it just works as it should and you do not need to do any of the steps listed above.
August 12, 2009 at 2:37 am
tried installing windows xp mode in windows 7, but that also no luck. it is telling you should plug magic jack into your usb drive even though it is plugged.
August 22, 2009 at 5:10 pm
I just did a fresh install of win7 rtm. After the install I inserted the magic jack device, clicked on the icon, not the drive, it said it was getting an update (oh no!!!!) but, it worked after the update perfectly! No hack needed at all!

I got my magic jack working in windows 7 without any effort. Maybe they already have solved the problem.

i know how to fix your magic jack if you have the new windows 7. ive spend like 7 hours until i fixed the problem.
if you plugg your magicjack and the downloading screen appears and suddently disapears or if you connect with the new updates of windows 7 and just gets stuck with the loading screen this process might help you…..
1)first make a copy of contacts, open the phone drive and be shure you can see hidden files, then open MagicJack file, then you will see a file called Addresbook and make a copy and place in safe place so you can put back at the end….
2)then you have to format the MJ, right clic on the MJ drive thats called phone, then select format when new window appear select FAT,alocation default, label=PHONE if it is like that dont change, quick format and start….this will delete your contacts in the MJ drive but you already made a copy out side that drive see part 1!!!!
3)after formated you need to download the 2 updates from magic jack, first the windows vista and then the windows seven(the MJ must be plugged in when updating)
4) the last part, if your MJ wont start pleace go to MY document, or where your files are, pic, vids, music….
and the option to see hidden files must be on so you can see the APPDATA file, access tha file, then open roaming, then mjusbp and you must see the file ug00000, open it and run with the MJ plugged setup….and voala you must wait and the MJ must pass to the dial pad so you register with your data and ready to call….hope this helps cause ive spend 7 hours to find the solution!!!!
and be shure to make a sortcut to your desktop of the setup cause is the only way it works……

I finally got Magic Jack working in Win7 by copying my entire working MJack folder in
my Windows XP OS (“c:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\mjusbsp”)
onto a USB Memory Stick along with the “magicJack” Icon (shortcut) also that was on
my Desktop from the installation from long ago, then removed the memory stick, placed
it into my new Win7 Toshiba Laptop and proceeded to first copy that “mjusbsp” folder into
“c:\Users\\appdata\roaming\” as this forum had so nicely dictated (having a
little trouble getting “appdata” to show, having first to type it into the pathline in
the top of the Windows Exploring to get it to show), and then now seeing the “roaming”
folder, I was able to complete the copy of the Windows XP “mjusbsp” folder into there,
thankfully its final destination!
Now the part I want the forum to know about is my use of the Windows XP working “magicJack
Shorcut Icon” that in when I copied it to the Desktop in my Windows 7 OS, and when I went
into the properties of that icon to edit the new working directory pathlines, I was amazed
that they were already “magically” altered, leaving me only to yet have to finally try the
double-click with it and to find that somehow this all had thankfully all worked! I was even
surprised that the Icon even held its shapely figure!
Now even though I had this all working, I dabbled in their website further to find that on
their support area there is a Windows 7 upgrade that I further tried but it ended up giving
me “this is not a valid win32 installation” error message of sorts ……. so who needs them
anyway ……… we got US! HA! Thanks Peeps! Hope I maybe added a little more ease to
everybody’s upcoming Win7 Woes! HA
I am running 64-bit Win7, so perhaps that is why that MJack website customer support Upgrade
for Win7 did not work for me? Thankfully I had you guys to help me prevail!
